Wright insists Arsenal star lacks motivation due to culture shock

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright believes one of the reasons why Mesut Ozil is not motivated at Arsenal is because it’s not in the same stature as Real Madrid.

The 28-year-old has come under much criticism over his performances for the Gunners this season, with some fans believing they do not see him step up to the plate when it matters.

Arsenal signed the German international from Real Madrid in 2013 and has since divided the Emirates faithful over his displays.

When at Real Madrid, Ozil played alongside the likes of Karim Benzema, Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo, and was also managed by Jose Mourinho. Wright believes the culture shock of leaving a club like Real to go to Arsenal, having played with the likes of those mentioned above to his current teammates, have demotivated the German.

"When you leave Real Madrid for any other club - even one like Arsenal - it is going to be a culture shock because your new team-mates are not going to be as good as the ones you have left behind.

"He needs players of that stature to help and inspire him - and at Arsenal he has come under a lot more pressure to produce the goods.

"I wonder if he really believes that Arsenal are the club who can take him to the level he wants to be at."
