Too little, too late for Arsenal?

Finally, a win away from home in the Premier League since January 14th!

The Gunners stopped the rot last night after beating Middlesbrough in their back yard 2-1, giving the north London club a glimmer of hope of still achieving a top four finish this season.

The win last night at the Riverside Stadium leave Arsenal languishing in sixth place with 57 points with seven games left to play and seven adrift of fourth placed Manchester City, who have played a game extra.

Arsenal’s last seven fixtures are as followed:

Leicester City (h)

Tottenham (a)

Manchester United (h)

Southampton (a)

Stoke City (a)

Sunderland (h)

Everton (h)

Looking at those remaining fixtures, I personally believe Arsenal WILL miss out on a top four finish. I am not being pessimistic or negative, I’m being realistic. We haven’t played well in a while and despite beating Middlesbrough, I can see Arsenal faltering from now until the end of the season. Leicester City at home, Sunderland at home and possibly Southampton away looks like games that we can get all three points from in my opinion. The others, however, look dodgy and could trip us up if we don’t up our game.

From the seven games remaining, I’ve got Arsenal down to pick up around 11 points, and that’s without losing a game and being positive. Add this to our current 57 point tally and we will finish with 68 points, meaning City and Liverpool will only need four and two points respectively from now until the end of the season.

It looks like it’s too little too late for Arsenal. Hopefully I’m proven wrong, but perhaps finishing outside the top four will drive a push for change this summer.
