Why Arsenal must put deadline on striker's situation

Alexis Sanchez has and continues to be the talk of the town at Arsenal. Not only for his bright performances this season for the Gunners, but more so because of his current contract situation at the club.

Unless you’ve been living in a cave for the past few months, you will know that the Chilean is currently in a standoff with the Gunners over signing a new deal. His existing deal expires at the end of next season, and there have been no signs of the 28-year-old committing to the club anytime soon. Previous reports have suggested that Arsenal have offered him a contract worth around £180,000-a-week, a £50,000 per week increase. But it is thought that the former Barcelona man will not accept anything less than £250,000-a-week.

As a result of talks stalling and no progress over the matter, Sanchez has inevitably been linked with a move away from Arsenal this summer, with many of the club’s supporters fearing the worse. European giants such as Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan and Inter Milan, as well as some Chinese Super League clubs, are all believed to be keeping tabs and preparing offers this summer.

However, Arsene Wenger has claimed that even if Sanchez does not sign a new deal by the summer, he will still be an Arsenal player next season, leaving the risk of the striker departing on a free in summer 2018. Good or bad? You decide.

But it does seem the club are preparing for the worst, with several strikers apparently making up a list of potential replacement, should they decide to let Sanchez go. Dortmund’s Marco Reus, Lyon’ Alexandre Lacazette, Alvaro Morata of Real Madrid and Porto forward Andre Silva are all understood to be targets.

So, what should Arsenal do with Sanchez?

Well I believe losing Sanchez for absolutely nothing is something that surely can’t be considered, even if he is one of the top forwards in Europe.

Like Wenger, a deadline must be put on Sanchez to make a decision on whether he wants to remain at Arsenal. If he wants to go, then the club should get the most money out of him. There is no point of keeping a player at the club who doesn’t want to be there.

Before he hits the 12 month-mark on his contract, Arsenal should know what to do with Sanchez, and if that means selling him this summer then so be it.
